Jorge Rosales

Mayor of Benque Viejo del Carmen Town

Back to Mayors

The goal of a leader is to empower other leaders”. Such words are not commonly used, especially by politicians, but Jorge Antonio Rosales is a community leader who was inspired by the words and deeds of the late Rt. Hon. George Cadle Price.

Since becoming Mayor of Benque Viejo del Carmen in March 2021, he has realized that, in order to move our municipality forward, he had to inspire the younger generation and his contemporaries into understanding, believing, and acting accordingly. Each of us is responsible for the upliftment of our personal dignity and respect, as well as that of others, and by extension, of our town.

Mayor Rosales has realized two of his childhood dreams – becoming a building contractor and now the Mayor of the place where he was born on March 7th, 1973. The eldest of 12 siblings born to Irene and Marcos Rosales, he attended Mt. Carmel Primary School and later Mopan Technical High School. His interest in architecture led him to attend Belize Technical College. He later embarked on the construction industry with his father and siblings, erecting structures in San Ignacio, Belize City, Caye Chapel, and other places across the country. Mayor Rosales eventually also formed his own construction company.

In 2020, he decided to enter the political arena, opting for the mayoral seat in his hometown. Today, along with the elected Council, Mayor Rosales continues to provide much needed services to the town's residents. Under his leadership, he aims to bring about developmental and technical training in many fields, including food security and economic development. He is convinced that through such planned activities, they can break the cycle of dependency and truly empower Benque Video Del Carmen residents, and thereby create new leaders for a better future.
